But if the librarians weren't aware of them doing it, then it's not really a protest. And if they knew and didn't care, you already have a 24 hour library.

John was explaining this to me after I mentioned you to Caroline earlier today. I'm confused; if no-one's trying to stop you and you can effectively leave and enter the library whenever you want in search of pubs, then it seems to me like you already have a 24 hour library... I feel like I'm stating the somewhat obvious here, but the library was only open for 24 hours last night/this morning. It wasn't a confrontational 'sit down and refuse to leave' kind of thing, the protestors and Student's Association had organised it with the library staff beforehand. It's a bit difficult to keep a 1000-people protest secret from all the University staff. Normally the library shuts at midnight and all students still working there (apparently often up to 200) have to leave. On another note, how's Caroline? ----------------------- QUOTE (Jeremy Hardy) One can't escape the view that Marx would have been as appalled by Stalin, Ceausescu, Pol Pot and Gaddafi as Jesus would have been by Cliff Richard. |

The way John described it to me, it sounded a lot more subversive. I wonder if she'll decide against starting a forum for that one... |

Heh, it sounds like it started off as vaguely subversive, but given that pretty much everyone in the student elections campaigned for a 24-hour library, the students' association quite liked the idea and negotiated the logistics.
Aw, sounds like a fun event. And she ought to start a forum - this one has a legacy! I'd be tempted to spy and see if the pubescent social politics in any way resembles the old RM days if it wasn't kind of creepy. ----------------------- QUOTE (Jeremy Hardy) One can't escape the view that Marx would have been as appalled by Stalin, Ceausescu, Pol Pot and Gaddafi as Jesus would have been by Cliff Richard. |

Apparently Oxbridge have 24-hour libraries, as well as the LSE, Imperial College, Exeter, York, Sheffield, Bath, Josh-'n'-Stevie-Land...
Work-in didn't contain much work tbh. Got in at midnight, procrastinated for a bit, then drunk friend and I went looking for an open pub at 2am and failed, came back and did a combination of working, sleeping, talking and moaning about a boring lecturer that set the work we were doing. Arrived back at the flat at 7am and slept till 1pm. ----------------------- QUOTE (Jeremy Hardy) One can't escape the view that Marx would have been as appalled by Stalin, Ceausescu, Pol Pot and Gaddafi as Jesus would have been by Cliff Richard. |

We have a 24-hour 'Learning Grid', I think you'll find.

Yeah, he's right. The learning grid is 24 hours and it's definitely not the library. It has a load of computers, and it has copies of 'key course books' that can't be removed. The actual library is open till midnight terms 1 and 2, 2am term 3.

Aaah. Facebook group was wrong, big surprise. Although the term "learning grid" is amusing and reminds me of The Matrix.
